A coordination programme was signed in Hanoi on March 3 between the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee.

Under the programme, the two sides will closely work together to expand activities run by the VFF in countries with high numbers of overseas Vietnamese with the aim of promoting the image of Vietnam to the Vietnamese community living abroad.

At a future date, they will consider legal documents related to overseas Vietnamese, including the establishment of liaison or overseas Vietnamese’s relatives associations.

The VFF and the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese will inform each other of their activities concerning overseas Vietnamese every six months to one year.

In his speech at the signing, Deputy Foreign Minister and Director of the Committee, Nguyen Thanh Son, said that this coordination program aims to effectively implement the Party’s Political Bureau Resolution No 36 on Overseas Vietnamese affairs and encourage them to make more contributions to the homeland.

The nearly 4 million Vietnamese nationals living abroad are an indispensable part of the nation and serve as a bridge for cooperation of Vietnam with other countries in the world, noted Mr Son.
