Vietnam’s northern Lao Cai province and Qinzhou city of China’s Guangxi province will jointly conduct a study on economic development and cultural-social changes of the Dao ethnic minority group living along their common border.

An agreement on the project was signed recently by Director of the Lao Cai Department for Culture, Sports and Tourism Dr. Tran Huu Son, Dr. Be Van Hau from the Vietnam Institute of Sociology, and Prof. Yu Shijie from the Guangxi University for Nationalities.

The study will focus on impacts of trans-national tourism on economic development and traditional cultural preservation of the Dao ethnic minority group.

In addition, the project will also gather, study and classify antiquarian books of the targeted people.

The two sides agreed to equally send five experts to implement the project and hold seminars following each stage of study for review.
