Almost 3,000 hectares of the summer rice crop in Duc Linh and Tanh Linh district of Binh Thuan province were submerged, while five bridges and more than 2,000m of roads were severely damaged by floods and landslides.
Over the past two days, prolonged torrential rains have flooded many sections of roads and disrupted traffic flows in Dong Ha town, central Quang Tri province.
Hundreds of local residents have been mobilised to reinforce the dyke system in nearby Thua Thien-Hue province. Rising flood waters have submerged 600 hectares of rice and subsidiary crops and dozens of fish ponds and caused many traffic jams.

In the face of rising flood waters, the Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Committee in the Mekong River Delta has ordered local people in flood-prone areas to move to new reinforced houses. About 31,000 households in Kien Giang and An Giang provinces have settled in new residential areas.
The National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Centre said on August 15 heavy rains are expected to continue in the central region stretching from Nghe An to Thua Thien-Hue provinces, which may trigger further flash floods and landslides.
In its urgent telegram on August 15, the National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control asked its branches from Nghe An to Binh Thuan provinces, and ministries of transport and industry to give top priority to flood prevention. It suggested that rice and subsidiary crops in low lying areas be harvested and measures taken to protect people and their property in affected areas.
