Ninh Thuan province has earmarked VND1.5 billion from its budget to help 6,000 poor households enjoy the Lunar New Year Festival (Tet), which will fall on February 17.

The provincial Department of Culture and Information, in co-ordination with the Sai Gon Hotel, recently organised a concert to raise nearly VND400 million to build 37 houses for poor people. The concert attracted the support of more than 100 enterprises, and benefactors in Hanoi, HCM City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan provinces.

*** Similarly, central Khanh Hoa province has also presented Tet gifts worth VND3.4 billion to more than 16,100 families of social welfare beneficiaries. The province instructed local authorities to help ethnic minority groups and typhoon Durian victims have a happy Tet.

*** Southern Ben Tre provincial People Committee has also instructed local authorities to repair houses for typhoon Durian victims, so they can enjoy traditional Tet festival.

*** With total investment capital of more than VND4.5 billion, the Red Cross Society in central Thua Thien Hue province is repairing 239 dilapidated houses for poor households before the Tet holiday.

Of the total sum, VND2.15 billion is sourced from the Red Cross Societies of Spain, Sweden and the US, aiming to help build houses for storm-hit victims in the province.

Phillip Morris Vietnam has also donated VND850 million to build 75 compassionate houses for poor households in 15 communes of Quang Dien and Phu Loc districts which were hardest hit by typhoon Xangsane.
