PM urges maximum efforts to save lives amid record floods
VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung on November 20 signed a government dispatch from the Prime Minister directing urgent measures to respond to the exceptionally severe floods in central Vietnam, especially in Gia Lai, Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa provinces.
The dispatch emphasised that river levels in these provinces have reached extremely high levels, with some areas surpassing historical records. Floodwaters on the Ba River in Dak Lak and the Kon River in Gia Lai remain high, while rivers in Khanh Hoa are forecast to continue rising, with the potential to exceed historical levels. Severe and widespread flooding, combined with high tides, is creating a very high risk of flashfloods and landslides in mountainous areas.
In response to the emergency, the Prime Minister instructed the administrations ò Gia Lai, Dak Lak, and Khanh Hoa, along with relevant ministries and agencies, to focus on decisively implementing all urgent measures necessary to protect the lives of residents.
Local authorities are required to mobilise all available forces and resources, especially the army, police, local militias, and security forces, to immediately access deeply flooded, isolated, or landslide-prone areas and promptly evacuate residents to safe locations.
The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of ensuring the timely supply of food, essential goods, and drinking water, particularly staples such as dried food, bread, and dairy products, to prevent residents from going hungry, suffering from cold, or lacking water.
The Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of National Defence are tasked with directing military and police units in the affected areas to fully deploy personnel and equipment, including helicopters and drones, to assist local authorities in evacuations, search and rescue, and the delivery of relief supplies.
The Ministry of Construction and Ministry of Public Security are assigned to coordinate with local authorities and relevant forces to manage traffic in advance, advise residents to avoid flood-affected areas, and ensure safe movement.
