Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on August 22 signed an official dispatch to chairmen of Peoples' Committees of provinces and cities nationwide, urging them to take drastic measures to prevent any outbreaks of bird flu and Type A flu in humans.

In the context of complicated developments of the recurrence of bird flu in neighbouring countries, the PM required chairmen of People's Committees of provinces and cities to make all-out efforts to implement a number of urgent tasks.

The dispatch said that relevant forces, including veterinary, health care, customs, border guards, transport and communications, the local steering boards against smuggling and trade frauds and local authorities have to strictly watch border gates and border areas.

They also have to strictly implement the policy to postpone the import of poultry and their products from countries being affected by bird flu, quickly detect, prevent and severely punish the illegal import and smuggling of poultry or poultry products.
