Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has urged ministries, branches and local authorities to draw lessons from weather forecast activities as well as rescue and relief operations in the aftermath of Typhoon Xangsane.

PM Dung made the remark at a working meeting on October 28 with representatives from various ministries, braches and provinces to review the results of relief work in the aftermath of the typhoon, which wreaked havoc on the central region in early October.

He said relief activities must be done in an open, transparent and fair manner.

The meeting took place in the coastal city of Da Nang as another typhoon is heading toward Vietnam's central provinces.

It is expected that Typhoon Cimaron, the 7th one so far this year, would hit central Vietnam in the next few days.

The Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Finance to coordinate with local authorities to closely monitor the delivery of food to every household and to provide each household with five million VND to rebuild their houses.

He added that the government would provide an additional 80 billion VND for affected localities to repair infrastructure, schools and hospitals, and to restore production activities.

According to reports by the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control, Typhoon Xangsane left 76 dead or missing, and  532 injured.

The typhoon caused losses of VND10.4 trillion to the provinces, among which Da Nang City, Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam provinces were hardest hit.

To overcome the typhoon's aftermath, the government has provided VND161 billion from the State Budget for 11 affected provinces, while dozens of billion of VND have been raised throughout the country for people in these localities.
