PM urged for further scientific applications in real life

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked Vietnamese scientists to work harder to ensure that Vietnam can actively integrate into the global intellectual value chain.

In his speech at a year-end conference of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) on December 27, the government leader said that sufficient resources should be allocated to apply science and technology to production and startup projects.

He suggested the Academy come up with appropriate solutions for the use of natural resources, environmental problems and climate change response.

He also pointed to existing problems in scientific research, including impractical studies and asked the academy to devise scientific and technological measures to monitor, control and handle the environment  and address consequences caused by climate change, as well as create environmentally-friendly products, reduce production cost, and increase competitiveness.

The cabinet leader suggested applying science and technology into processing and food preservation while expanding high added value chain for farm produce.

" It is essential to improve the competitiveness of such key sectors as hi-tech agriculture, nanotech, artificial intelligence, and new-generation material production," he emphasized.

In 2016, the VAST has announced a total of over 2,000 fundamental scientific works, including 996 published on international journals.

The institution has presented 28 intellectual property certificates, encompassing 11 inventions and 17 useful solutions, representing a year-on-year increase of 56 percent, and published 39 monographs.

The VAST also greatly contributed to identifying the cause of the abnormal massive fish death in the central province, providing important scientific evidence on violations in the case and and dealing with consequences in the affected areas.
