PM orders urgent support for flood-hit localities

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked ministries to implement urgent relief measures to help central localities overcome the consequences of recent heavy rains and flooding.

The PM sent a dispatch to the chairpersons of the People’s Committees of Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, and Quang Ngai, and to the ministers of National Defence, Finance, Health, and Agriculture and Environment on October 31.

According to the document, prolonged torrential rains from the circulation of Storm No. 12, compounded by a cold spell and strong easterly winds aloft, have caused severe flooding across the central region, resulting in heavy losses of life and property.

Many households have been isolated for days, facing shortages of food and essential supplies due to inundation and disrupted transport networks.

To ensure residents' safety and prevent hunger and disease outbreaks, the PM asked the Minister of Finance to immediately allocate rice from national reserves to flood-hit communities, based on requests from provincial authorities, including Quang Ngai. Implementation results should be reported to the PM by October 31.

The Ministry of National Defence will instruct Military Zones 4 and 5 and relevant units to quickly deliver emergency rations, including the two tonnes of dry food requested by Quang Ngai province. The work must be done by October 31.

The Ministries of National Defence and Public Security are to mobilise vehicles and personnel to transport and distribute relief items - rice and dry food - directly to needy households.

The Minister of Health is assigned to instruct the provision of medical supplies and disinfectants for post-flood sanitation and water treatment at the request of localities, including Quang Ngai and Hue. These tasks must be completed and reported to the Government by November 1.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment is tasked with supporting affected areas with chemicals for water and environmental treatment, livestock disease prevention, and seeds and breeding stock to restore production.

The People’s Committees of Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, and Quang Ngai are instructed to deliver relief supplies to households quickly and transparently, ensuring no one goes hungry and no epidemics occur after the floods.
