The US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) will provide more funds for Vietnam’s efforts to prevent and combat the deadly disease HIV/AIDS.
PEPFAR’s Public Relations staff Hoang Thanh Hai made the remark at a requiem for 100 persons who have died of HIV/AIDS, held at Cau Ca pagoda in Hanoi on September 1.

PEPFAR has since 2008 helped Cau Ca Pagoda set up and operate the “Smile of the Sun” Centre, a home for 50 HIV/AIDS infected children who are learning English and receiving legal consultations as well as learning measures to prevent and fight the disease.

PEPFAR has as of now granted around 35 million USD to the “For a Bright Tomorrow” group, which was set up in 2003 to assist HIV/AIDS patients, fight discrimination against them and raise public awareness of the deadly disease, the group’s coordinator Van Tung said, adding that his group now boasts around 4,000 members working in 16 cities and provinces nationwide.
