Party official hosts Tet reception for religious dignitaries

Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai have extended her New Year greetings to Buddhist and Catholic dignitaries and followers.

At a reception for Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Vice Standing Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council, in Hanoi on January 19, Mai said her commission will support the council to host the all-level Buddhist congresses and progress to the eighth national Buddhist Congress.

She hailed the VBS for conducting charitable activities and joining hands with the Party and State to help poor people and ethnic minority groups to enjoy a warm traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.

Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu said the VBS celebrated its 35th founding anniversary in 2016 and has established executive boards across 63 cities and provinces nationwide.

He noted that the eighth national Buddhist Congress will take place in Hanoi at the end of this year.

The same day, Mai met with Priest Tran Xuan Manh, Vice President and General Secretaryof the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics, during which she said she hopes the committee will promote its role as a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to make more active contributions to the Catholic community as well as national building and development.
