Oxfam helps Tien Giang adapt to climate change

Tien Giang province in the Mekong Delta has been selected as one of localities to see coastal communities adapt to climate change under an Oxfam-funded project.

The project aims to support the most vulnerable people in society, especially women living in coastal regions exposed to climate change and natural disasters.

Ten communes in Go Cong Tay and Tan Phu Dong districts will benefit from the project targeted toward poor families, fish farmers and people with disabilities.

Starting in August 2012, the US$3.15 million Oxfam initiatives will go on until the end of next year. The project is underway in two Mekong Delta provinces and three provinces in the Red River Delta, and has helped 51,000 vulnerable people, mostly women, access climate change information and another 11,000 improve their livelihood.

The outcomes of the project will support policy makers and minimise risks to the province and country.
