Many of the Vietnamese community in Laos attended an art festival in the capital city of Vientiane on August 18 to commemorate the 64th anniversary of Vietnam’s August Revolution and National Day.

The event was attended by Vietnam’s former Vice State President Truong My Hoa and Laos’ Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith.

Participants enjoyed art performances by the Association of Vietnamese in Vientiane saluting the land and people of Vietnam, late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh and the special ties between Laos and Vietnam.

The Vietnamese community in Laos are planning more activities in celebration of National Day between now and September 2.

** The Vietnamese community in the Russian city of Krasnodar have also organized activities to commemorate Vietnam’s National Day.

On August 18, hundreds of Vietnamese living in that city participated in a seminar on poems about President Ho Chi Minh, where Vietnamese linguist-poet Nguyen Huy Hoang spoke passionately about Vietnamese and Russian poetry.

Nguyen Thi Sam, who has worked in Russia since 1988, expressed the strong feelings stirred in her by hearing poems about ‘Uncle Ho’ and her homeland. “I’m so moved to have had such a chance to listen to poet Hoang… Such poems make overseas Vietnamese like us more attached to the homeland.”

The Vietnamese community in Krasnodar is planning tournaments for such sports as football, ping-pong, volleyball, and badminton to celebrate Vietnam’s National Day.
