“In Vietnam, spring is the time for traditional cultural festivals and new-year tours to enjoy the cozy atmosphere,” said Lee So Young, a student of International University under Ho Chi Minh City National University.
“I am really impressive with the unique custom of the Vietnamese people to go to pagodas on the new-year occasion to wish for prosperity, happiness and good luck,” he said, adding that he will go to the pagoda on the New Year’s Eve to pray for his family and friends.
Chonghouatho Songxamay, a Lao student of Hung Vuong University said: “I am lucky to have two years in Vietnam on the lunar new-year holiday. Last year, on the occasion, I stayed in Hanoi and enjoyed a quite cold weather while this year in Ho Chi Minh City, apricot and peach blossoms bloom in the sunshine.”
"At first, we were very surprised at the customs of welcoming the New Year’s Eve, giving money as a new-year gift on the first day of the lunar new-year in Vietnam as our country has only water splashing, wrist thread binding and going to pagodas," the student said.
This year, almost 73 foreign students of HCM City National University stay in Vietnam to celebrate the Tet holiday.
Michle Randy, a Turkish student, is especially impressive with ancestor worshipping custom of Vietnamese people, which makes him homesick.
Kuak No Jin, a Korean winner of a Vietnamese speaking contest is interested in the custom of being the first footer on the new-year occasion.
“The first footer is expected to bring good health, good luck and fortune to the family. I felt a cozy atmosphere when I entered my friend’s house on the first day of the lunar new-year last year. At that time, every family’s members welcomed me respectively with best wishes."
Other foreign students in Vietnam plan to participate in festivals or traditional games on the new-year holiday to understand more of Vietnamese people and culture.Bình luận của bạn đang được xem xét
