In 2009, almost 1 million poor and disabled children received support from the National Fund for Vietnamese Children (NFVC).

In response to the 2010 Action Month for Children and International Children’s Day (June 1), the NFVC held a charity gala in Hanoi on May 30 to honour outstanding children who face extreme harship. It attracted many leaders from the Party, State and ministries plus numerous artists and children.

During the gala, the organising committee called upon domestic and foreign individuals and organisations to raise more money for poor children. The sum will be used to support poor and disabled children or those who have contracted fatal diseases.

On the occasion, the NFVC presented gifts to 55 children from across the country.

Over the past 18 years, the fund has raised more than VND2,500 billion to support over 26 million children.

Speaking at the gala, the Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan emphasised that the NFVC has helped, cared and protected millions of children. In 2009 alone, the fund raised VND9 billion to help 1 million children.
