Over 70 rare bird species captured in photos at Vietnam BirdRace 2025
VOV.VN - More than 70 rare bird species native to Bidoup Nui Ba National Park were photographed during the Vietnam BirdRace 2025, which concluded on June 9 in Lam Dong Province, Central Highlands.
The event attracted nature enthusiasts and wildlife photographers from around the world to one of Vietnam’s most important bird conservation areas on the Da Lat Plateau.
The O Tac team emerged as the overall winner, documenting 70 species during the competition. They were closely followed by the Sigma team with 65 species, Ba Ria with 64, and Treo Cay Mo Vang with 58.
In the individual category, several photographers were recognized for their outstanding contributions, including Ha Vu Linh from Da Nang, Li Tian Shu from China, and Truong Anh Tuan from Nha Trang.
This year’s BirdRace saw a record turnout with 93 participants forming 24 teams from Vietnam and eight foreign countries and territories, namely the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong (China), Taiwan (China), China, India, and Peru.
Over a span of 27 hours, participants raced to identify and photograph as many bird species as possible, using the rich biodiversity of Bidoup Nui Ba as their backdrop. The park spans over 70,000 hectares and boasts a wide range of habitats, from pine to evergreen forests, supporting a variety of endemic and endangered bird species.
The competition also featured a range of sideline events aimed at promoting conservation, including a book launch, panel discussions, photography and birdwatching seminars, and an art auction to support bird conservation initiatives.
BirdRace 2025 not only celebrated the beauty and diversity of Vietnam’s birdlife but also aimed to inspire young people, nature lovers, and the photography community to take a more active role in wildlife protection and environmental awareness.
Notable species found in the park include the Collared and Orange-breasted Laughingthrush, Vietnamese Greenfinch, Dalat Shrike-babbler, and several subspecies unique to the region, making it a premier destination for birdwatchers and conservationists alike.
