More than 1.7 million candidates across the country will begin tertiary entrance exams on July 4, a year-on-year increase of 12 percent, according to the Ministry of Education and Training.

The ministry said the number of candidates registering for universities dropped by two percent, while those for colleges increased by two percent. Notably, Hanoi and HCM City saw significant decreases in the number of registered candidates (around 55,000 and 16,000, respectively) compared to last year. Meanwhile, candidates registering for universities in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho and central Quy Nhon city increased by 6,000 and 10,000, respectively. 

This year’s exams will be divided into three phases, with the first one to be held on July 5-6 for Group A examinees, the second one on July 9-10 for Group B,C,D examinees and the last one from July 17-22 for those registering for colleges across the country.

The ministry has asked localities and relevant agencies to co-ordinate closely with and create favourable conditions for universities and colleges to organise the exams in a safe and lawful manner.

According to the ministry, more than 120,000 staff have been mobilised and all necessary technical facilities have been well prepared for the event.
On July 5-6, Group A examinees will sit for maths, physics and chemistry tests.
