The Ministry of Health on October 11 confirmed the 23rd death of A/H1N1 flu and 65 more cases of infection and bringing the total number of flu patients in the country to more than 10,000.
The latest victim was a 14-year-old boy from Dak Soong commune, Krong Chro district of the central highland province of Gia Lai.
The boy, who had a chronic kidney problem, had fever and lost appetite but was self-treated at home for nearly a month before being sent to Krong Chro district’s hospital on October 5 in an exhausted physical condition and respiratory distress.
He was transferred to Gia Lai provincial hospital the same day and received intensive care and treatment for nearly three days but died on October 7. His samples were positive for the A/H1N1 virus.
The total number of the patients have climbed to 10,021, of which 23 have died and 9,057 been discharged from hospital, while the remainder are currently quarantined for treatment.
