Ordinary passports with electronic chips to be issued from March 1

VOV.VN - Ordinary passports featuring electronic chips have started to be issued for Vietnamese citizens, with the process starting from March 1.

According to details given by the Ministry of Public Security’s Immigration Department, ordinary passports both with and without e-chips will be used simultaneously.

A passport with an e-chip attached to its back cover is able to store encrypted information of the passport holder and the signature of the issuer.

The passport shows the holder’s written information, such as name, date of birth, and nationality.

It also features their biometric information like fingerprint scan, face, and blood type. The passports with electronic chips will therefore help to improve security and accelerate customs procedures.
