The US$500,000 project will be carried out in two years from October 2006 to December 2009 in central and southern provinces, including Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Tay Ninh, Dong Nai, An Giang, Kien Giang, Dong Thap, Ca Mau, Binh Phuoc, Bac Lieu and Can Tho.

The project aims to improve knowledge about eye diseases and capacity to detect them for local medical staff, volunteers of Population, Family and Children, and people in the community. The project will conduct surgeries for 3,500 children suffering from eye diseases in 14 projected provinces and cities.
