Orbis International, a US-based non-governmental organisation, has pledged VND835 million (about US$52,000) for a children's eye-sight care project in the Mekong delta.

The 2006-2009 project aims to reduce the number of blind or visually impaired children by providing free operations for 1,000 children under 15 years old and improving the capacity of eye surgeons in the Mekong delta.

This is part of Orbis International's VND13.4 billion project on restoring eye-sight for 6,800 children in 14 cities and provinces in central and southern Vietnam.
