Vice Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem on October 4 allowed authorities of central Da Nang City to undertake a “Flying Eye Hospital” programme worth US$218,000 offered by the US-based ORBIS International.

Under the programme, the first of its kind in the country, Da Nang Ophthalmic Hospital will be helped in training medical staff and building an e-library, a remote diagnosis and treatment centre and a practice surgical ward from October 9-20.

The flying hospital is literally an airplane equipped with modern facilities, including an operating room, a testing room and a 48-seat room. Every year, it flies around the world to give eye surgeries to poor blind people and help train doctors.
