Nearly 250 Vietnamese and foreigners will take part in a charity programme in Ho Chi Minh City on May 26 to raise funds for children needing surgery for facial deformities.

Operation Smile Vietnam (OSV) and its partners are organising the 7th annual event with a gala dinner and charity auction of contemporary Asian art at Park Hyatt Saigon Hotel. The highlight will be a special auction of paintings by local and foreign artists by Hong Kong-based auction house Rob Blain.

Fifteen veteran Vietnamese artists, including Ha Huynh My, Ton That Bang, Phan Mai Truc and Tra Giang, will send their works to the auction.

Organisers hope to raise funds to cover free surgery for at least 400 children with cleft lips, palates, several burns, and tumours. Most of the kids will be from remote provinces.

The show is part of worldwide charity activities to mark 25 years of Operation Smile, a US-based non-profit organisation that provides free surgery in 25 countries for children and young adults born with facial deformities.
