The Department for Preventive Medicine and Environment under the Ministry of Health on October 29 confirmed one more death from the A/H1N1 influenza, raising the total death toll from the disease in the country to 36 so far.
The latest fatality was a 37-week pregnant woman, 31, from the Central Highland province of Dak Lak. She was hospitalised on October 14 with symptoms of fever, cough, breathing difficulties and pneumonia.
She developed respiratory distress and died on October 27. Samples subsequently tested positive for the A/H1N1 virus.
As of 17:00 the same day, Vietnam confirmed 10,568 A/H1N1 cases of infection in 59 provinces and cities nationwide. Of these, 10,286 have been discharged from hospital.
The ministry continued to urge people, especially pregnant women, to go to health clinics for check-ups and treatment in case of showing any flu symptoms.
