One dead, 19 injured as passenger car plunges into ravine

VOV.VN - A 45-seat passenger car fell off of a precipice on Lo Xo Pass in the district of Dak Glei, Central Highland Kon Tum province at 2.30am on March 1 as it was travelling from Ha Nam to Gia Lai provinces.

Driver Vu Van Huy, 34, died on the scene and 19 of the passengers were injured.

Upon receiving the news, local authorities in Kon Tum mobilized nearly 100 rescuers and 10 emergency vehicles to rescue the victims from the deep chasm.

Hoang Trung Thong, chairman of Dak Glei district People’s Committee, said three of the lighter injuries are being treated at Dak Glei Medical Centre while 15 serious injuries have been sent to the provincial general hospital. Only one person with a minor injury could take a bus to Gia Lai province.

The Dak Glei district People’s Committee provided support of VND2 million for the family of the deceased driver and VND1 million for each injury.
