Official clarifies legal protection for murder suspect in Malaysia
Vietnam has asked for Malaysia’s cautious, fair and indiscriminate approach to taking legal proceedings against Doan Thi Huong - a suspect in the death of Democratic People’s Republic of Korean citizen Kim Chol in Malaysia, ensuring her legitimate rights and interests.
On March 29, the Vietnam Bar Federation (VBF) in coordination with the embassy hired Malaysian nationals Hisyam Teh Toh Teik and Naran Singh to defend the suspect in court. They will be supported by four other associates.
The VBF also assigned three leading Vietnamese lawyers to assist their Malaysian counterparts during the process.

During working sessions between relevant Vietnamese agencies and Malaysian lawyers, both Vietnamese and Malaysian lawyers expressed their belief that Huong will be acquitted and they are collecting evidence to submit to the court.
About specific measures to protect Huong’s interests, Thanh said the ministry along with the VBF and embassy in Malaysia will attend hearings, working sessions and make consular visits to her to closely follow the legal proceedings.
In the home country, the ministry will also partner with departments, agencies and the VBF to track the case, he added.
