No Vietnamese victims reported in Tibet earthquake (China)
VOV.VN - Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pham Thu Hang, responded to reporters' questions regarding the ferry capsizing incident off the western coast of Seosan-si, Chungcheongnam-do, in the Republic of Korea (RoK), and whether any Vietnamese citizens were affected by the recent earthquake in Tibet (China) at the Ministry's regular press briefing on January 9 in Hanoi.
Pham Thu Hang said that on December 30, 2024, a tragic incident occurred when a ferry capsized off the western coast of Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do, resulting in several fatalities, including one Vietnamese citizen.
Upon receiving the information, the Vietnamese Embassy in the RoK immediately coordinated closely with local authorities, the labor dispatch company, and informed the victim’s family, providing assistance with the funeral arrangements.
The Vietnamese Embassy in the RoK continues to collaborate with local authorities in search and rescue efforts and the investigation of the incident, standing ready to implement support measures to protect the legal rights and interests of Vietnamese citizens.
Also at the press briefing, in response to a report’s question about whether any Vietnamese citizens were involved in the recent earthquake in Tibet (China), spokesperson Pham Thu Hang reported that, according to the latest information from the Vietnamese Embassy in China, the earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.8, struck Dingri in the Shigatse city of Tibet (China) on January 7, causing hundreds of casualties and injuries.
Following instructions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy in China has been working with local authorities to monitor the situation, verify information regarding any Vietnamese citizens who may have been affected, and is ready to carry out timely support measures. However, as of now, there have been no reports of Vietnamese citizens being victims of the earthquake.
The Vietnamese Embassy in China will continue to work hand in hand with local authorities to follow the situation and be prepared to offer assistance and protection if any Vietnamese citizens are affected.
