NHK airs broadcast on Vietnam’s great Spring 1975 victory
VOV.VN - Japanese broadcaster NHK on April 30 ran a report highlighting the significance of Vietnam’s great Spring 1975 victory, as well as the country’s grand celebration marking 50 years of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country.

In its 7:00 A.M. news broadcast on April 30, NHK aired a live programme connecting with its resident correspondent in Ho Chi Minh City where the grand celebration was taking place.
The programme featured historic footage of a Vietnamese liberation army tank crashing through the gates of the Independence Palace on the morning of April 30, 1975, marking the moment of complete liberation of Southern Vietnam and the full reunification of the country.
The programme also showcased modern-day images of Ho Chi Minh City, highlighting its remarkable development, as well as scenes from the full rehearsal of the military parade and mass march held on April 27.
NHK’s resident correspondent also captured the emotional meeting between American war veterans and Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange.
NHK quoted US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, who, when responding to the media on the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, emphasised that the US and Vietnam are working to expand and deepen their relationship, reaffirming the desire to further strengthen cooperation with Vietnam.
Earlier, NHK had also broadcast a documentary about former US Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara who was widely regarded as the chief architect of the Vietnam War, in which it praised the indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people.
According to the documentary, McNamara made a mistake by failing to fully understand the Vietnamese people, that the more they are oppressed, the more resilient they become.
NHK added that even when McNamara met General Vo Nguyen Giap in Hanoi on November 9, 1995, he still seemed not to understand why the US lost the war, while General Vo Nguyen Giap of Vietnam simply responded that “The word ‘fear’ does not exist in our military thinking, because to us, nothing is more precious than independence and freedom,” and “You lost because you didn’t understand, if you want to understand, you must listen.”
