Travel agencies have launched special domestic tours for overseas Vietnamese who return to the homeland for the traditional lunar New Year (Tet).

Festival and Nimbus Tourist companies offered a six-day tour of the capital city of Hanoi where overseas Vietnamese will visit historic relics of the former Thang Long Citadel such as Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam (the first university in Vietnam), Tran Quoc pagoda and Ngoc Son Temple. Visitors will be also taken to other tourist sites in the northern region including Ha Long Bay, Huong pagoda and Sa Pa resort.

Festival alone offered a five-day tour of Cat Ba Islands in the northern port city of Hai Phong and a six-day tour of Tuan Chau resort in the north-eastern border province of Quang Ninh for visitors.

Apart from Festival and Nimbus, other leading travel agencies Saigontourist, Fiditourist and Ben Thanh Tourist launched trans-national tours lasting between 15-18 days. Visitors will have the chance to enjoy the traditional art performances and special Tet dishes of the northern, central and southern regions.

Notably, Fiditourist launched luxurious package tours of the most favourite destinations among overseas Vietnamese including Phan Thiet, Da Nang, Da Lat, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc.

Meanwhile, as many as 6,450 overseas Vietnamese have booked Tet tours through Saigontourist’s website
www.dulichtet.com, a year-on-year increase of 30 percent. The travel agency launched the website on December 12 with the aim of welcoming more visitors in the next two months through online booking.

The traditional lunar New Year will fall on February 17, 2007.
