Scientists have found a number of new species of fauna and flora, including rare species of cyprinida, bat and orchid, in some national parks across Vietnam.

The cyprinida, which is known under a scientific name of Cyclocheilichthys heteronema, is an endemic fish of the Mekong river. It was discovered in the Lo Go - Sa Mat national park belonging to the southern province of Tay Ninh.


Scientists found between 300-500 specimen of the grey-nosed bat, which has a scientific name as Hipposideros grandis in Cat Ba and Cuc Phuong National Parks belonging to the northern provinces of Hai Phong and Ninh Binh, respectively.


With the appearance of this special rare species of bat in the world, Vietnam is home to 112 species, 32 varieties and seven groups of bat.


A new species of orchid called Vietorchid aurea Aver was also found in Cuc Phuong park. The 20-cm-high orchid has white trunk and yellow flowers.


Scientists also discovered in Cuc Phuong park tens of species of rare and precious orchids which are listed in the Vietnam Red Book like Lan Bach Manh (Biermania sigaldii Seidenf), Hoang Thao Det (Dendrobium nobile Lindl) and Hoang Thao Tam Dao (Dendrobium daoensis Gapnep).
