New museum, garden opens at Saigon Zoo

A Botanical-Animal Museum has opened at the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens (Saigon Zoo) in HCM City.

The museum covers an area of 530 square metres inside the Saigon Zoo at Nguyen Binh Khiem street in District 1.

It displays many specimens of botanicals and animals, including more than 350 specimens of 140 rare botanical species and 170 animal species.

Many kinds of rare and endangered animals are on display, such as Indochinese tigers, white rhinoceroses, pheasants, pelicans, leopards and gaurs.

On the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday, the museum will introduce two Bengal tigers, a family of African spotted hyenas, two South American camels, and an eight-month-old hippo infant weighing over 150kg.

The Saigon Zoo features more than 1,100 animals from over 120 species and several thousand plants, including many endangered species listed in Vietnam’s Red Book and the World Red Book.
