This is a record figure since the first contest was organized in 2003. The figure is expected to rise to approximately 1,000 in early May.

The figure shows that more and more Vietnamese young people are eager to get rich and contribute to society, said Mr Phuong Huu Viet, President of the Vietnam Young Entrepreneur Association at a ceremony held in Hanoi on April 18.

Mr Viet said over the past four years, the contest has been a useful playground for young people who want to get rich and become good businessmen in future. The event has enhanced young people’s love of business, which is of great significance in the context of global economic integration. He added that it is necessary to boost the country’s economic development process to catch up with other countries in the region and the world.

The contest is one of the main contents of the international integration campaign launched among Vietnamese youth. The Prime Minister has assigned the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, the Vietnam Youth Association and the Vietnam Young Entrepreneur to implement the campaign.

The Lighting Up Business Young Talents 2007 event will officially take place on May 6. The deadline for entries is on May 2.

According to preliminary statistics from the organizing board, as many as 890 candidates have registered for the contest including 670 from Hanoi, 100 from HCM City, 120 from Hue and Da Nang, central Vietnam.

The first Lighting Up Business Young Talents was held in 2003. So far, around 80 candidates have won high prizes and achieved certain success in business operations.
