Nearly 2,000 COVID-19 patients recovered, children in some localities vaccinated

VOV.VN - A total of 1,998 patients were discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of recoveries to 820,334, while some localities have started vaccinating children aged 12-17 years old, the Health Ministry reported on October 31.

The same day, the nation confirmed 5,519 new COVID-19 local cases, bringing the fourth wave’s tally to 916,286.

HCM City led the daily tally with 1,041 cases, followed by Dong Nai with 688 and Binh Duong with 672.

Hanoi recorded 46 cases, including 12 in the community and the remainders found in isolation areas.

The number of infections surged by 280 cases compared to the figure on the previous day.

Ho Chi Minh City recorded the highest number of  COVID-19 deaths on the day with 53, taking the national pandemic death toll to 22,083.

By October 30, the nation had inoculated more than 81.37 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, with more than 24.33 million people now fully vaccinated with two doses.

Meanwhile some localities such as Binh Duong and Ninh Binh have started COVID-19 vaccination for children.

As many as 180,000 people in the age group are entitled for vaccination in Binh Duong, using 360,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine allocated by the Ministry of Health.

Those aged 15 - 17 will receive the shots first and the younger later, according to the provincial Department of Health.

So far, 2.3 million people in Binh Duong have received at least one jab of COVID-19 vaccines, equivalent to 96% of those aged 18 and above. Among them, nearly 1.6 million people, or 70%, have been fully vaccinated with two doses.
Elsewhere, the central city of Da Nang is set to kick off the vaccination for children aged 15 - 17 on November 2.
