Nearly 1.7 million air passengers recorded during holiday peak
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s aviation market handled nearly 1.7 million passengers during the Hung Kings Commemoration Day and April 30-May 1 holiday, with international transport rising while the domestic segment declined.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), total passenger volume reached about 1.68 million during peak travel periods, up 2.2% year-on-year, while cargo rose 7.2%.
International transport recorded more than 1 million passengers and over 24,000 tonnes of cargo, increasing by 10% and 10.6% respectively. In contrast, domestic transport fell to about 675,000 passengers and 3,400 tonnes of cargo, down 7.5% and 11.6%.
Across the airport network, aircraft movements totalled nearly 15,000, with more than 2 million passengers and close to 31,000 tonnes of cargo handled. Traffic was concentrated at Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat and Da Nang airports.
Vietnamese airlines transported about 1.03 million passengers and 7,900 tonnes of cargo. Passenger numbers fell 7.3%, while cargo increased 3.5%. International operations carried about 356,700 passengers and 4,490 tonnes of cargo, with passenger numbers down 6.8% but cargo increasing 19.1%.
During the holiday period to May 2, Vietnamese carriers operated 4,748 departures, with an on-time performance rate of 85.6% and 56 cancellations.
The CAAV said overall aviation operations during the holiday were safe and smooth, with service quality maintained and on-time performance kept above 80% throughout the period.
According to Uong Viet Dung, aviation units maintained duty rosters, intensified inspections and supervision of safety, security and service quality, thus ensuring continuous operations. Issues at airports were resolved promptly within authority and did not affect safety or operations, while passenger support for delayed or cancelled flights was provided in line with regulations.
