National Women’s Congress concludes, picks seven new goals

The 12th National Women’s Congress concluded in Hanoi on March 9 after three working days, with seven targets for 2017-2022 approved.

The goals include supporting the formation of 300 women-managed co-operatives, the addition of a million members and ensure all Women’s Unions across the country enroll at least 50% of women aged 18 and above.

Participants at the congress agreed to choose 171 members of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU). They have selected 161 so far.

At the first meeting of the VWU Central Committee, the members re-elected Nguyen Thi Thu Ha as President of the union for 2017-2022, along with four vice presidents.

Addressing the closing ceremony, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF)’s Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan lauded the contributions that the VWU has made to VFF activities.

He hailed the seven goals of the VWU in the new tenure, saying that they show the close links between the VWU and the VFF.

On the occasion, the VFF leader presented the Independence Order second class to former President of the VWU  Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa in recognition of Hoa’s significant contributions to women’s movements.
