Vietnamese students in France held a gala night in Nantes city on June 18 to promote the image of Vietnam amongst international students and French people.

The Vietnamese film Dung Dot (Don’t Burn) directed by Dang Nhat Minh screened at the event highlighted the heroic struggle of the Vietnamese people during the American War in Vietnam. The moving film impressed the audience, especially international students.

“It’s so interesting to watch a wartime film produced by a Vietnamese director here in France,” said Laura, a medical student in Nantes. “I am a medical student, so I like character Dang Thuy Tram – a young doctor who volunteered to march toward the front and provide medical services to wounded soldiers. It is a moving story.”

French photographer Scott Mathieu displayed his photos of Vietnam, its people and land during the Doi Moi (Renewal) process. He has travelled across Vietnam and shot many pictures, including those illustrating the country’s traditional lunar New Year festival.

At the event, international students and French people signed a petition in support of Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin who are suing American companies for supplying the toxic chemical to US army to spray over the Vietnamese land during the war.
