The number of Vietnamese people spending their holidays abroad has increased to 26.4 percent, compared to 10 percent in 2006, according to a recent survey on around 2,000 customers by Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Saigon) newspaper.

China is the most attractive destination for Vietnamese tourists (41.1 percent), followed by Thailand (29.5 percent), Singapore (24.3 percent), the US (more than 24 percent) and Hong Kong (16.4 percent). Other destinations selected by respondents include the Republic of Korea, Europe, Australia and Egypt.

For the second time, Ha Long Bay tops the list of attractive destinations in Vietnam, followed by Nha Trang Bay, Phu Quoc Island, Hoi An Township, Hanoi, Hue, Da Lat, Mui Ne, Con Dao and Sapa.

The survey also showed that 96 percent of respondents claimed to spend their holidays abroad every year. Nearly 50 percent of them like massage and spa services.

Cheap tours did not attract customers any longer as the number of respondents dropped to 15.9 percent from 26.4 percent in 2006. Nearly 42 percent demanded better services and more than 30 percent referred to the need to open new tours.

According to the survey, many holiday-goers also complained that they could only get information about tours from friends and the Internet, not from service providers.
