The Prime Minister has decided to grant VND220 billion in aid from the State budget and 7,000 tonnes of rice to the victims of natural disasters in 15 provinces nationwide.

The receivers include Lai Chau (VND20 billion), Cao Bang (VND30 billion), Bac Kan (VND30 billion), Ha Giang (VND20 billion), Thai Nguyen (VND20 billion), and Dien Bien (VND8 billion).

Thua Thien Hue is given (VND10 billion) and 1,000 tonnes of rice, Quang Nam (VND15 billion) and 2,000 tonnes of rice and Quang Ngai (VND12 billion and 2,000 tonnes of rice) and Quang Tri (VND15 billion and 2,000 tonnes of rice).

The relief aid will be used to stabilise the food supply and living conditions of those affected people, repair local infrastructure such as schools, health-care facilities, irrigation works, and transport and flood prevention systems.

Another three provinces - Nam Dinh, Ha Nam and Thai Binh - will receive VND5 billion each to buy oil and gas, electricity and seeds. VND10 billion and VND15 billion will be allocated to An Giang and Long An, respectively.

Earlier, on October 2, the PM also decided to allocate VND460 billion and 10,000 tonnes of rice to eight provinces hit by storm Ketsana - Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Kon Tum.
