Thirty-three disadvantaged children with eye diseases from the northern province of Bac Giang are undergoing free surgery at Hanoi Eye Hospital.

The surgery, costing nearly VND50 million, is sponsored by the Christian Fellowship Union of Canada, which plans to fund eye operations for 50 disadvantaged children in Bac Giang and Hai Duong provinces in May.

The operation is part of a programme by the Vietnam Fund for Support of Children called “For Children’s Eyes”, which was launched in 1998.

The programme has so far provided free surgery for 24,557 children with eye diseases nationwide at a cost of nearly VND30 billion.
