The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) plans to generate 1.6 million new jobs each year in an effort to reduce the unemployment rate in urban areas to five percent in 2010.

Of the total jobs, the industry and construction sectors will account for 23-24 percent and the trade and services sectors, 26-27 percent. The agriculture sector will represent only 50 percent of all jobs by 2010.

Over the past five years, Vietnam has created about 1.5 million new jobs for labourers a year and reduced unemployment rate in urban areas to 5.3 percent.

The country has sent some 580,000 labourers to work overseas each year.
