Ministry of Science and Technology accelerates research programmes to combat COVID-19

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Science and Technology is striving to fast track its research programmes in order to strengthen its ongoing fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, especially in terms of vaccine research, Deputy Minister Le Xuan Dinh has said.

The Ministry will also focus on updating information in science and technology, along with applying high technical standards when attempting to prevent and fight COVID-19. It is also set to take the initiative when mobilising resources for research and bolstering international co-operation in vaccine production.

Most notably, the Ministry will push ahead with the implementation of numerous agreements and memoranda of understanding at the highest level alongside various partners, including Israel, China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, among others, whilst also participating in various international research schemes.

Furthermore, it will also seek to connect with major forums in an effort to gain greater experience, share effective COVID-19 prevention measures with international friends, whilst also promoting Vietnamese achievements and products in the field.

The Ministry has also called for effectiveness in regional and global science and technology networks that can sufficiently provide information on COVID-19 and help to tackle the spread of the pandemic, thereby boosting Vietnamese prestige and influence internationally.

The Directorate of Standards, Metrology, and Quality has set out to support relevant enterprises in regard to technical standards and preventive measures. It will arrange free training on management, along with the registration of codes and barcodes. This is being done in an effort to stabilise operations and improve productivity moving into the post-pandemic period.

The Ministry last year approved and devised 10 urgent tasks aimed at increasing capacity in combating the pandemic.
