The Ministry of Health has insisted that Vietnam’s medical facilities still meet the demand for A/H1N1 flu patient treatment and that people not be treated at home as they are in some other countries.

At a press briefing on August 18, the ministry said most of the flu cases in Vietnam are not serious and general hospitals at the provincial or district level can quarantine and treat them.

The medical watchdog said it has issued newly-modified guidelines on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of A/H1N1 flu, including details for treating children aged 1-13, and warned that patients can cause medicine resistance in the virus if they buy and use antiviral medicine on their own initiative.

The Ministry of Health said clinics have been provided with sufficient Tamiflu medicine to treat patients free of charge and some pharmacies have been permitted to import more medicine of this kind.
