Mekong delta provinces have been taking prompt actions to stamp out the spread of bird flu after recent outbreaks found in the two southernmost provinces of Ca Mau and Bac Lieu.

Vice Chairman of the Ca Mau provincial People's Committee Duong Tien Dung said the local veterinarians, policemen, soldiers and youths have been sent to Khanh Hung commune to help farmers cull poultry in the infected areas.


Authorities in Bac Lieu, province have ordered the killing of all infected poultry in Vinh Binh commune, and banned the transport of poultry out of the infected areas.


In the meantime, authorities in Hau Giang, Long An, Ben Tre and Can Tho city have warned local people on their guard against the spread of bird flu in the region.
