Meeting of ASEAN Senior Transport Officials opens in Hanoi

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Transport hosted the 48th ASEAN Senior Transport Officials’ Meeting (STOM 48) alongside other STOMs with dialogue partners in Hanoi on November 11, with 200 domestic and foreign delegates in attendance.

The event,with the meetings scheduled to run until November 13, is serving as preparation for the 25th ASEAN Transport Ministers’ Meeting (ATM 25), along with the ATM with dialogue partners which is due to take place in Hanoi between November 14 and 15.
During his opening speech, Deputy Minister Tuan acknowledges the efforts made by ASEAN members to build an inter-connected, effective, safe, and sustainable transportation system that connects the bloc. This has served to form an ASEAN economic area of stability, prosperity, and high competitiveness.
During the STOMs, groups working on air, maritime and land transportation, and transport facilitation report on the implementation of various projects and plans. In addition, the groups negotiate the building of co-operation agreements between ASEAN and other partners for submission to ministers.
The STOM 48, alongside other STOMs, with dialogue partners seeks to co-ordinate activities of different working groups, address technical difficulties, in addition to ensuring the progress and quality of instructions set out at the meetings of transport ministers.
ATM 25 will listen to reports regarding the implementation of projects within the framework of the Kuala Lumpur Transport Strategic Plan for 2016 – 2025 in the areas of air, maritime, land transportation, and transport facilitation.
