The check was handed over to the Vice Chairman of the Tra Vinh provincial People’s Committee, Nguyen Van Phong, on September 30 to mark the opening the company’s representative office in Hanoi.
The money will be used to build a school for children whose families have been resettled due to the construction of the Duyen Hai 2 power plant, Janakuasa President and CEO Ti Chee Liang said.
He added that Janakuasa has committed itself to contributing US$1 million annually for the construction of schools in the province, from the start of commercial operations of the plant till the end of the concession period. The plant is scheduled for completion in 2014 or 2015.
President and CEO Ti Chee Liang said the working style of Vietnamese authorities and concerned agencies is also a reason for his company to be present in Vietnam.
