The Malaysian minister has affirmed that Malaysian employers hope to recruit more Vietnamese workers because they are industrious, enterprising and hard-working.

Minister of Human Resources Fong Chan Onn made the statement at a working session with Huynh Thi Nhan, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs in Kuala Lumpur on October 26.

He appreciated Vietnam's efforts in providing workers with training, foreign languages and knowledge of Malaysian customs, before sending them to work in Malaysia.

He said the two sides should hold annual meetings to review the implementation of the signed agreements and discuss measures to resolve pending problems and promote the cooperation in labour supply between Vietnam and Malaysia.

Deputy Minister Nhan praised the Malaysian Ministry of Human Resources’ efforts in resolving problems related to overseas Vietnamese workers. She requested Malaysia to issue visas of 6-12 month validity instead of one month for Vietnamese businesses, who are responsible for handing issues on Vietnamese workers in Malaysia.

More than 100,000 Vietnamese are working under labour contracts in Malaysia.
