The first session of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption has approved one of the three key contents which deals with seven major corruption cases of public concern, including financial scandals in the Project Management Unit 18 (PMU18) and in the oil and gas sector.

From now till the end of this year, the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption will focus on resolving corruption cases of public concern. They include the Ministry of Transport’s Project Management Unit 18 (PMU18) graft scandal; the fraud and property appropriation by Nguyen Lam Thai, which involved some local post offices; the power abuse and bribery of government inspectors at certain projects run by the Vietnam Petroleum Corporation (PetroVietnam), and the fraud and property appropriation by Nguyen Duc Chi relating to the Rusalka project in central Khanh Hoa province.


State President Nguyen Minh Triet said that the corruption situation remains serious in Vietnam. Therefore, combating corruption is the vital task, prestige and responsibility of the Party, State and Government.

Anti-corruption activities have won public acclaim in recent times. People confidently expect that Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption will strictly deal with corruption cases.


The municipal Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has pledged to prevent and gradually get rid of corruption and wastefulness for the purpose of ensuring political stability and socio-economic development. The focus will be on building up trust among people and strengthening the Party organisation. The local authorities will have to work out measures to enhance the effectiveness of the fight against corruption and wastefulness, to boost the combative spirit of the Party cells and members, to streamline the administration apparatus and to promote the role of political and social organisations in supervising anti-corruption and wastefulness activities.

 

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said it is necessary to fully promote the role of the media in national construction and defence and, at the same time, to maintain the role of Party leadership and State management in the media struggle against corruption and wastefulness. He asked relevant agencies to provide adequate and accurate information to the media as soon as possible.
