The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL), in cooperation with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, held a meeting in Phan Thiet City, southern Binh Thuan province in response to World Environment Day (June 5), themed “Melting Ice – A hot topic”.

On behalf of the VGCL, Dang Ngoc Tung called for labourers across the country to respond to World Environment Day by actively taking part in the movement to maintain labour safety and hygiene for their own health and for the country’s sustainable development.

After the opening ceremony, participants joined a parade along Phan Thiet city, planted trees, collected rubbish and cleared drainage with a view to increasing people’s responsibility for protecting the environment.

*** The Nha Trang Municipal People’s Committee, in cooperation with the Khanh Hoa provincial Youth Union, held a meeting on June 3 to welcome the Sea Festival 2007 and World Environment Day (June 5).

More than 3,000 students, young people and State employees joined hands to collect rubbish, clean up polluted areas, gather wastes along the beach and residential areas at 17 communes and precincts in the city. This is an annual activity of the city in response to World Environment Day and particularly the Sea Festival 2007 which falls on June 9.

In the past, the Khanh Hoa provincial Youth Union has held a number of activities and volunteer movements with the aim of raising awareness among youth union members and the community about environmental protection, contributing to build a green, clean and modern Nha Trang City.
