To prevent the recurrence of bird flu, the veterinary department of northern Lang Son province has since the beginning of January co-ordinated with relevant agencies in destroying more than 10 tonnes of chicken, over 18,000 eggs, and 200kg of beef illegally imported from China.

It has sprayed chemicals to disinfect breeding farms in order to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease and A H5N1 bird flu epidemic among humans.


The marketing management team No 9 in northern Quang Ninh province on January 14 seized a 750 kg-container of 400 illegally imported chickens and culled all the chickens immediately.


Meanwhile, southern Vinh Long province has intensified monitoring activities to detect new outbreaks of bird flu and suspected cases of A H5N1 virus infection.


So far, all local health departments agencies have prepared sufficient chemicals and medicines to cope with the epidemic. Provincial hospitals and district clinics are ready to treat suspected cases of A H5N1 virus infection and have installed a hotline to keep abreast of bird flu development in affected areas.
