Localities bracing themselves for storm Pakhar

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has asked relevant authorities to develop a master plan on natural disaster prevention and mitigation in mountainous regions.

Dung told a meeting in Hanoi on August 26 to cope with storm Pakhar that preparations should be focused on flash flood and land slide prevention, sustainable livelihoods, and forest protection.

“We need to prepare all possible measures to minimize the loss of life and property caused by storm Pakhar. Agencies involved must ensure maximal safety for vessels operating in areas to be hit by the storm. People in the affected areas must also be evacuated, " Deputy PM Dung said.

Localities should keep a close watch on the movements of the storm and closely monitor lakes and dams, while making forces and equipment ready for all circumstances.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, heavy rains began to come to Vietnam’s northern region as from August 28.
